“Paintballs, paintballs, paintballs..., Are there any ways to buy more Palico Paintballs in Monster Hunter Now? How to use MH Now paintballs?” --- from Quora Users

There are endless gadgets to use and Monsters to hunt. However, sometimes you’re in a hurry and can’t get to a hunt right away. You find a monster you’d like to hunt, but you don’t have the time to get to it now and would like to do it later. What do you do? That’s where Monster Hunter Palico Paintballs come into play.

But what, exactly, are paintballs in Monster Hunter Now? Don’t worry — this article will answer all of your questions!

Part 1: What Does the Paintball Do in Monster Hunter?

Paintballs are made for the moment when you can’t get to a hunt right now but would like to do it later. In short, paintballs are used to “mark” a monster so you can find and hunt it later?

There are two kinds of paintballs in MHN. There are the regular, pink paintballs. Then there are the blue Palico paintballs. Both work in a different way.

Let’s check both of them out.

#1. Regular Pink Paintballs

Regular paintballs are regular in color, and have to be used manually.

When you find a monster you’d like to hunt later, you just mark them with your pink paintball. Then, the monster will stay marked for 48 hours and you will be able to find it whenever you want. However, after the 48 hour period is over, the mark expires and you can’t see it anymore.

Once you have a monster marked, you have 3 attempts to hunt it. That means if you encounter the monster and lose, you can go back and try again 2 more times.

This wasn’t always like this, because earlier players had only one attempt per paintball. But that was changed in an update, and you have 3 attempts.

Plus, be noted that if you start the encounter and then willingly back off, then you lose an attempt. So make sure to not quit the encounter if you’re short on attempts already .

We explain how to use the regular paintball in the next section.

#2. Palico Blue Paintballs

The primary difference between a regular paintball and a Palico paintball is that the latter is automatic.

You have to manually use the regular paintball on a monster to mark it. On the other hand, you don’t have to manually use the Palico paintball. It’s used automatically on different monsters.

In fact, you have no control over which monster gets marked by the Palico paintball, so it’s kind of a shot in the dark.

Palico paintballs work even if you’re not actively playing the game and have the app closed. All you need is Adventure Sync setting turned on in your game settings.

Part 2: How to Use Paintballs in Monster Hunter Now

Now, you must be wondering how do you use paintball in Monster Hunter Stories. Well, that’s exactly what this section is about. Let’s tell you how to use both kinds of paintballs one by one.

#1. How to Use Regular Paintballs in Monster Hunter Now

To use a regular paintball, you have to first find a monster you’d like to mark.

  • Once you have found a monster, you need to tap it before you start the encounter.
  • Once you tap it, you get the option to mark it with your regular paintball.

Be reminded that the mark lasts for 2 days, and then expires. So make sure to get back to your hunt before it happens.

#2. How to Use Palico Paintballs in Monster Hunter Now

As said earlier, you don’t really have to do anything to use your Palico paintball. All you need is the setting “Adventure Sync” turned on.

Once you have the setting enabled, your paintball will mark monsters even if you have the app closed. Once you open the app, you can go after the marked monsters and hunt them.

Part 3: How to Get Paintballs in Monster Hunter Now

Each paintball can be used to mark 8 monsters, and that applies to both types of paintballs.

You get blue paintballs for free. To be precise, you get 3 of them each day. But, they don’t add up the next day, so it’s advised to use them every day.

To get pink paintballs, you have to purchase them from the shop. The cost 180 gems per paintball, or 900 per five paintballs.

Furthermore, you also get free paintballs when you reach different rankings in game.
